RSS = Really Simple Syndication.

Already know all about RSS feeds? Here's the link you need for your RSS reader:

http://www.misaonline.org/misanews.php

If you're not sure what RSS is, read on ...

What is it?
You want to stay current on today’s topics, but sometimes you’re just too busy to stop and check in with your favorite websites (you know, like misaonline.org). With Really Simple Syndication (RSS), you can run a small, easy-to-use program on your computer – called an RSS reader – that will do the checking for you.

After you install a free RSS reader on your computer (see below for a list of options), you add a link to our site to your RSS reader. Your RSS reader will usually refer to this link as a “feeds.”

Once you add a feed to your RSS reader, it will check our site for you (at an interval you select … once a day, once an hour, whatever you like). When we put a new story on this site, your RSS reader will show you the basics: the name of the new web page, a summary of what’s on the web page, and a link so you can take a look at the full web page for yourself. Our site will feed your RSS reader with information about news we add to misaonline.org.

So, if you've decided you want this information sent to your computer, how do you set yourself up? First, you need software ...

Software
For Windows, the two most popular RSS readers are SharpReader and RSS Reader. A more complete list of readers may be found at About.com.

Mac users who have OS X on their computers will find an RSS Reader already installed ... the free Safari web browser can read RSS feeds just fine. More readers are listed at About.com as well.

Install the software according to the directions provided by the software creator. After you have the software installed, you need to add the misaonline.org link to it ...

Adding a feed
Adding a link to misaonline.org in your RSS reader differs from program to program, but these are the basic steps:

  1. Start your RSS reader software.
  2. Use your mouse to highlight this address:
    http://www.misaonline.org/misanews.php
  3. Make sure you've just highlighted the address starting with http: and ending with php.
  4. Pull down the EDIT menu and select COPY.
  5. Switch over to your RSS reader. Pull down the file menu. There will normally be an option there called "Add a feed" or "Subscribe to a new feed" or something similar. Select that option.
  6. A window will probably appear, ready to accept the address you just copied. Place your mouse in the space for the address, click once, pull down the EDIT menu and select PASTE.
  7. In some RSS readers, you also have to click a SUBSCRIBE box after pasting in the address.

Mac users who are using Safari to read RSS feeds have fewer steps to follow:

  1. Put your mouse over this orange RSS graphic:
  2. Right-click (or Control-click) on the graphic.
  3. A menu flies open. Select "Add link to bookmarks."

Once you're comfortable with your RSS reader, you may want to add RSS feeds from other sites to your list ...
